How to get your Community-led Housing project up and running in four easy steps.

Step 1: Agree on your project

Bring together a steering group and be clear about the problem you’re trying to solve, and how you’re going to tackle it. If you’re group lacks confidence, visit other groups for inspiration.

Step 2: Evidence your project

Do your homework – make sure there is a real need for the project, and ask the community for their thoughts. If there is a neighbourhood planning group in place locally, make contact and see how your housing project can fit in.

Ensure the community supports your plans. If they don’t, it may be time to think again.

Step 3: Draw up a project proposal

You won’t have all the answers yet, but you must be able to convince funders and other key organisations that you are focused and that your plans are robust.

Step 4: Choose a legal structure

Protect the project and yourselves by doing things legally and formally. Get advice and get organised.
